Lacosamide is an antiepileptic medication used for the treatment of partial-onset seizures, with or without secondary generalization. It works by stabilizing abnormal electrical activity in the brain.
The medication is administered orally or intravenously, as directed by a doctor. The dose is gradually adjusted to reduce the risk of side effects.
Side effects may include dizziness, nausea, fatigue, or balance disturbances. In rare cases, severe allergic reactions or cardiac arrhythmias may occur.
Lacosamide is not recommended for patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or certain cardiac conditions, such as second- or third-degree atrioventricular block.
