Do not take with milk, calcium, iron, magnesium, or antacids if separation is recommended.
Ossein-hydroxyapatite complex is a mineral supplement or medicine used to provide calcium and bone-related components, especially in people at risk of bone mass loss. It may be recommended in osteopenia, osteoporosis, after menopause, in older adults or when dietary calcium intake is insufficient. Hydroxyapatite provides calcium and phosphate in a form close to bone structure.
It is taken by mouth according to the dose recommended by a doctor or the package leaflet. Regular use matters, and when indicated it should be combined with vitamin D, exercise, adequate protein intake and fall-prevention measures. Do not take high doses of calcium from several products at the same time unless advised, because excessive intake may occur.
Possible side effects include constipation, bloating, nausea, abdominal discomfort or unpleasant taste. Too much calcium can cause intense thirst, frequent urination, weakness, confusion, severe constipation or kidney stones. Some medicines, such as levothyroxine, tetracyclines, quinolones, bisphosphonates or iron, should be taken at a different time from calcium supplements.
Ask a doctor before use if you have kidney stones, kidney disease, high blood calcium, sarcoidosis, treatment with thiazide diuretics or conditions affecting mineral metabolism. Bone treatment is not only calcium; bone density assessment and fracture-risk evaluation may be needed. Tell your doctor if back pain, blood in urine or symptoms of high calcium occur.
