Ginkgo biloba + Panax ginseng is a herbal combination found in supplements for tiredness, concentration, memory or mental performance. Ginkgo is associated with circulation and cognitive function, while ginseng is linked to vitality and resistance to fatigue. Effects can vary widely between people and products, and the supplement does not treat dementia or severe exhaustion.
It is taken by mouth according to the label or advice from a doctor or pharmacist. The dose should not be exceeded, because these plants can have real pharmacological effects. If memory problems, dizziness, fatigue or reduced performance persist, the cause should be investigated, including anaemia, thyroid disease, sleep problems, depression, medicines or neurological disorders.
Side effects may include headache, insomnia, agitation, palpitations, digestive upset, rash or allergy. Ginkgo may increase bleeding risk, especially with anticoagulants, antiplatelet medicines or anti-inflammatory drugs. Ginseng may influence blood glucose, blood pressure and the effect of some medicines. Stop before surgery if advised by the doctor.
Consult a doctor before use if you have epilepsy, bleeding disorders, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, pregnancy, breastfeeding or chronic treatment. Seek medical help for unusual bleeding, extensive bruising, chest pain, severe palpitations, confusion or allergic reactions. Supplements should be chosen carefully and do not replace medical evaluation.
