Diclofenac + omeprazole is a combination medication used to treat pain and inflammation associated with conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis, while reducing the risk of gastrointestinal complications caused by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
- Diclofenac is an NSAID that reduces pain, inflammation, and fever by inhibiting prostaglandin production.
- Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that decreases stomach acid production, protecting the stomach lining from irritation and ulcers caused by diclofenac.
This combination is particularly indicated for patients at higher risk of gastric ulcers or gastrointestinal bleeding, such as those with a history of gastric conditions or those requiring long-term NSAID treatment.
Side effects may include nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea, dizziness, or, in rare cases, allergic reactions. Long-term use may increase the risk of cardiovascular events (due to diclofenac) or gastrointestinal infections (due to reduced stomach acid). It is important to take this medication as prescribed by a doctor.
