Leaflet ATINEPTE 12.5mg film-coated tablets

Indicated for: depression

Substance: tianeptine (antidepressant)

ATC: N06AX14 (Nervous system | Antidepressants | Other antidepressants)

Tianeptine is a medication primarily used for the treatment of major depressive disorder, but it also has benefits in managing anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It is an atypical antidepressant that works differently from other classes of antidepressants by modulating glutamate activity and increasing serotonin reuptake in the brain, without directly affecting serotonin receptors.

Tianeptine also has neuroprotective properties and can enhance neuroplasticity, which helps reduce depressive symptoms and improve cognitive function. It is taken orally, usually 2-3 times per day, as prescribed by a doctor.

Common side effects include nausea, drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, and constipation. In rare cases, it may cause dependence, especially at high doses or with misuse. For this reason, tianeptine use should be carefully monitored, and it is contraindicated in patients with a history of substance abuse.
