About this active substance

Esketamine is a medication used for the treatment of treatment-resistant major depressive disorder, in combination with an oral antidepressant. It is an NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate) receptor antagonist that works by regulating neurotransmitters in the brain, providing rapid relief of depressive symptoms.

The medication is administered as a nasal spray, usually under medical supervision in a healthcare facility. The dosage and frequency are adjusted based on the patient's response.

Common side effects include dizziness, nausea, drowsiness, dissociation, and increased blood pressure. In rare cases, more severe adverse effects such as psychotic symptoms or dependency may occur.

Esketamine is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women unless the benefits outweigh the risks. Patients should inform their doctor about all medications they are taking to avoid drug interactions.
