Indicated for: allergic rhinitis; urticaria
Substance: cetirizine (antihistamine)
ATC: R06AE07 (Respiratory system | Antihistamines for systemic use | Piperazine derivatives)
Cetirizine is an antihistamine used to treat allergy symptoms such as allergic rhinitis (sneezing, runny or stuffy nose) and chronic urticaria (itching and hives). It is effective in reducing allergic reactions caused by histamine, without causing significant drowsiness in most patients.
Cetirizine is indicated for both adults and children and is available in tablet, syrup, or oral drop forms. It is commonly used for seasonal allergies, dust or pet allergies, and to relieve itching associated with urticaria.
Side effects may include fatigue, dry mouth, dizziness, or nausea. It is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment or hypersensitivity to cetirizine or other antihistamines.
