About this active substance

Camizestrant is a hormonal treatment for adults with ER-positive, HER2-negative, locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer. It is combined with a CDK4/6 inhibitor when an ESR1 mutation is detected before disease progression on first-line endocrine therapy plus a CDK4/6 inhibitor. It blocks and promotes breakdown of oestrogen receptors, slowing tumour growth.

Take it by mouth once daily, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole without crushing or chewing. An oncologist supervises treatment, and mutation testing is required to select eligible patients. ECGs and blood tests are performed before and during therapy. Do not change the accompanying medicines yourself.

It can cause a slow pulse and visual effects such as flashes of light or blurred vision. In combination with a CDK4/6 inhibitor, tiredness, nausea, diarrhoea, anaemia and low white blood cell counts with infection risk may occur. Possible heart rhythm problems require attention to other medicines and electrolyte levels.

Tell the doctor urgently about fainting, palpitations, severe dizziness, fever or persistent visual symptoms. Avoid pregnancy and use the recommended contraception, including after treatment. Do not breastfeed during therapy or for 4 weeks after the last dose. Report all medicines and supplements, as some interactions can be important.
