Terbinafine is an antifungal medication used to treat fungal infections of the skin, nails, and scalp. It is effective against a wide range of fungi, including dermatophytes, which cause conditions such as tinea pedis (athlete's foot), tinea corporis (ringworm), tinea cruris (jock itch), and onychomycosis (fungal nail infections).

Terbinafine works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of the fungal cell membrane, leading to the destruction of the fungus. It is available in the form of cream, gel, spray for topical use, and tablets for oral administration, depending on the type and severity of the infection.

Common side effects include local irritation (for topical use), headaches, gastrointestinal disturbances (such as nausea or diarrhea), and, rarely, liver function impairment (for oral use). It is important for patients to complete the full course of treatment, even if symptoms resolve, to prevent recurrence of the infection.
