Cetylpyridinium is an antiseptic compound commonly used in oral hygiene products such as mouthwashes, throat sprays, and lozenges. It is effective against bacteria and some types of fungi, helping to prevent and treat minor infections of the mouth and throat, such as gingivitis, stomatitis, or pharyngitis.

Cetylpyridinium works by disrupting the cell membrane of microorganisms, inhibiting their growth and spread. It is used to reduce bacterial plaque, prevent bad breath, and soothe throat irritation.

Side effects are rare but may include local irritation, a burning sensation, or temporary changes in taste. It is contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to cetylpyridinium or other ingredients in the product.
