Indicated for: warts; corns; hyperkeratoses
Route of administration: cutaneous
Substance: salicylic acid + lactic acid (keratolytic acids)
ATC: M02ACN2 (Musculo-skeletal system | Topical products for joint and muscular pain | Preparations with salicylic acid derivatives)
Salicylic acid + lactic acid is a skin treatment used for warts, corns or thickened skin, depending on the product. Salicylic acid is keratolytic, meaning it helps loosen and remove the hard outer layer of skin, while lactic acid softens the area and may support the local effect. The treatment works gradually and should be applied only to the affected area.
It is for external use only and should be used as stated in the leaflet or by a healthcare professional. It is usually applied daily after washing and drying the area, while avoiding healthy surrounding skin. Wash hands after use. Do not apply it to the face, mucous membranes, open wounds, moles, irritated skin or infected areas. Extra caution is needed in children, people with diabetes or poor circulation.
Possible side effects include stinging, burning, redness, peeling, dryness, irritation or tenderness. If the product touches healthy skin, it may cause superficial chemical damage. Excessive use or large areas increase the risk of irritation and unwanted absorption. Treatment may take several weeks, but lack of improvement should be discussed with a doctor or pharmacist.
Stop use and seek medical advice if severe pain, bleeding, discharge, signs of infection, allergy, ulceration or worsening of the lesion occurs. Do not combine several caustic products unless advised. If the diagnosis is uncertain, especially if a lesion changes colour, grows quickly or hurts, it should be assessed before treatment.
