Precautions:

Anaphylaxis

Risk of severe allergic reaction. Seek urgent medical help if serious symptoms occur.

Benzoxonium chloride + lidocaine is a local combination used for pain and irritation of the throat or mouth, depending on the product form. Benzoxonium chloride is a local antiseptic, while lidocaine is a local anaesthetic that temporarily numbs the painful area. Its main role is symptom relief; it does not treat a severe infection by itself.

Use it exactly as stated in the leaflet, as a lozenge, spray or local solution, without exceeding the maximum dose. After use, numbness may increase the risk of accidentally biting the tongue or choking, so it is sensible to avoid food and hot drinks until normal sensation returns. It should not be given to children below the age allowed in the leaflet.

Side effects may include excessive numbness, stinging, unpleasant taste, dryness, nausea, local irritation, rash or allergic reactions. If too much lidocaine is used, dizziness, sleepiness, tremor, heart rhythm problems or seizures may occur, although these are rare with correct local use. Avoid combining it with other local anaesthetics unless a healthcare professional recommends this.

Contact a doctor if sore throat is severe, lasts more than a few days, or is accompanied by high fever, pus, breathing difficulty or inability to swallow. Stop treatment if facial swelling, hives, wheezing or widespread rash occurs. People allergic to local anaesthetics, with important heart disease or taking antiarrhythmic medicines should ask for medical advice before use.
