Methylthioninii chloridum, also known as methylene blue, is a medication used for the treatment of methemoglobinemia, a condition in which hemoglobin cannot efficiently carry oxygen. It works by reducing methemoglobin to functional hemoglobin.
The medication is administered intravenously, usually under medical supervision, and is effective in restoring normal oxygen transport in the blood.
Side effects may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness, and, in rare cases, severe allergic reactions. Temporary blue discoloration of urine and skin is a common and harmless effect.
Consult your doctor to discuss the benefits and risks of treatment with Methylthioninii chloridum. This medication must be administered exclusively in controlled environments, such as hospitals.
