Fenticonazole is an antifungal medication used to treat fungal infections of the skin and mucous membranes, such as vaginal candidiasis, dermatophytosis, pityriasis versicolor, and other superficial mycoses. It belongs to the imidazole class and works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of the fungal cell membrane, leading to fungal destruction.
It is available in the form of creams, vaginal suppositories, or solutions, and is applied locally to the affected area. Treatment is usually short-term, and the frequency of application depends on the type and severity of the infection, as directed by a doctor.
Common side effects include local irritation, burning sensation, or itching at the application site. Rarely, severe allergic reactions such as skin rashes or swelling may occur.
Fenticonazole should be used as directed by a doctor, and patients should avoid contact with the eyes. If symptoms persist or worsen, medical reevaluation is necessary.
