Menthol + camphor + pine essential oil + other volatile oils are aromatic ingredients used in topical products for colds, blocked nose, mild cough, muscle aches or a feeling of congestion. They produce cooling, warming and strong odour sensations that may make breathing feel easier. They do not treat the underlying cause of infection.
The product is applied externally, inhaled or used according to the commercial form and leaflet. It should not be applied to the eyes, nose, mouth, mucous membranes, wounds, burns or under tight dressings. Wash hands after use. In children, the minimum permitted age is essential because menthol, camphor and essential oils can cause breathing spasm or toxicity.
Side effects may include irritation, burning, redness, itching, cough, sneezing, watery eyes, rash or bronchospasm. People with asthma, allergies, epilepsy, sensitive skin or previous reactions to volatile oils should seek medical advice. Accidental ingestion can be dangerous, especially in children, even in small amounts.
Stop use and seek medical help if wheezing, shortness of breath, facial swelling, widespread rash, sleepiness, seizures or worsening cough occurs. If fever, chest pain, purulent secretions or symptoms lasting more than a few days occur, consult a doctor. The product may improve comfort, but it does not replace necessary treatment.
