Lidocaine + chamomile extract is a local combination used to relieve pain, stinging, itching or irritation of the skin or mucous membranes, depending on the product. Lidocaine provides temporary local anaesthesia, while chamomile extract has soothing and mild anti-inflammatory properties. Use must match the body area for which the product is authorised.
It is applied in a thin layer or according to the instructions in the leaflet. It should not be used in the eyes, on deep wounds, extensive burns, infections, heavy bleeding or large areas without medical advice. After application to mucous membranes, numbness may increase the risk of accidental biting or swallowing problems, so immediate eating may be unsuitable.
Side effects may include local burning, numbness, tingling, redness, dryness, irritation, rash or allergy. People allergic to plants in the Asteraceae family, such as chamomile, ragweed or marigold, should be cautious. Repeated use or use on damaged areas may increase lidocaine absorption and the risk of general reactions.
Stop use and seek medical help if facial swelling, breathing difficulty, widespread rash, severe dizziness, palpitations, confusion or excessive numbness occurs. If symptoms persist, worsen or signs of infection appear, diagnosis is needed. During pregnancy, breastfeeding and childhood, the product should be used only according to professional advice.
