Doxapram is a respiratory stimulant used for the treatment of acute respiratory insufficiency or postoperative respiratory depression. It works by stimulating the respiratory centers in the brainstem, increasing the rate and depth of breathing.
The medication is administered intravenously, as directed by a doctor, and requires careful monitoring during treatment.
Side effects may include hypertension, tachycardia, tremors, or nausea. In rare cases, seizures or severe allergic reactions may occur.
Doxapram is not recommended for patients with hypersensitivity to this medication, epilepsy, or severe hypertension.
