Lidocaine + lauromacrogol 400 + chamomile extract is a local combination used for anorectal discomfort, irritation, itching, burning or pain associated with haemorrhoids and superficial fissures, depending on the product. Lidocaine reduces pain by local anaesthesia, lauromacrogol may relieve itching, and chamomile has soothing and mild anti-inflammatory properties.
It is applied externally or rectally according to the leaflet, usually after local hygiene and after a bowel movement. Do not use larger amounts than recommended and do not apply to heavy bleeding, infections, deep wounds or large areas without medical assessment. Treatment should be short term and combined with constipation prevention through fluids and fibre.
Side effects may include local burning, numbness, itching, irritation, redness, dryness or allergic reactions. People allergic to plants in the Asteraceae family, such as chamomile or ragweed, may react to chamomile extract. Excessive lidocaine use may increase the risk of systemic reactions, especially on damaged mucosa.
Consult a doctor if significant rectal bleeding, severe pain, fever, discharge, a painful lump, dizziness, allergic reactions or lack of improvement occurs. During pregnancy, breastfeeding and childhood, use should be discussed with a doctor. Symptoms attributed to haemorrhoids may hide fissures, abscesses, bowel inflammation or other diseases that need diagnosis.
