Ruscus extract + hesperidin methyl chalcone + ascorbic acid is a combination used for symptoms of venous insufficiency, such as heavy, swollen or painful legs, and sometimes for haemorrhoidal symptoms. Ruscus and hesperidin have venotonic and capillary-protective roles, while vitamin C contributes to collagen formation and normal blood-vessel function.
It is taken by mouth according to the leaflet or doctor’s advice. The effect develops gradually and is better when combined with movement, avoiding prolonged standing or sitting, weight control and, if recommended, compression stockings. For haemorrhoids, preventing constipation and maintaining gentle local hygiene are also important.
Side effects may include nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, heartburn, headache, dizziness or skin rash. People with high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney disease, anticoagulant treatment or allergy history should ask for medical advice. The product should not be used for important swelling without diagnosis, because cardiac, kidney or thrombotic causes may be present.
Seek urgent medical help if sudden swelling of one leg, strong calf pain, redness, shortness of breath, chest pain, heavy rectal bleeding or severe anal pain occurs. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, use only with medical advice. Treatment may reduce symptoms, but it does not replace assessment of varicose veins or advanced venous disease.
