ATC: A02BC02 (Alimentary tract and metabolism | Drugs for peptic ulcer and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (gord) | Proton pump inhibitors)

Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor used to reduce stomach acid production. It is prescribed for conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, and gastric or duodenal ulcers.

Pantoprazole effectively relieves symptoms like heartburn, acid regurgitation, and epigastric pain. It is also used to prevent gastric ulcers caused by long-term use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

Pantoprazole is generally well-tolerated but may cause side effects such as headaches, nausea, diarrhea, or constipation. Long-term use may increase the risk of bone fractures, vitamin B12 deficiency, and gastrointestinal infections.

Pantoprazole is available as tablets or injectable solutions and should be taken as directed by a doctor. It is important not to stop treatment without medical advice, as symptoms may return.
