Pitavastatin + ezetimibe is a cholesterol-lowering combination used mainly to reduce LDL cholesterol when diet, exercise and one medicine are not enough. Pitavastatin reduces cholesterol production in the liver, while ezetimibe reduces cholesterol absorption from the intestine. Together, they help lower the risk of heart attack, stroke and other cardiovascular complications.

It is usually taken by mouth once daily, at the same time each day, with or without food, exactly as prescribed. The benefit depends on regular use. Treatment works best with a heart-healthy diet, weight control, physical activity, stopping smoking and good control of diabetes or high blood pressure when these conditions are present.

Possible side effects include muscle pain, cramps, tiredness, headache, stomach discomfort, diarrhoea or nausea. Less commonly, liver enzyme increases or serious muscle injury can occur. Contact your doctor promptly if you notice severe or unexplained muscle pain, unusual weakness, dark urine, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or persistent pain in the upper right abdomen.

Do not use pitavastatin + ezetimibe during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Tell your doctor about liver disease, heavy alcohol use and all medicines you take, including antibiotics, antifungals, fibrates and over-the-counter products. Blood tests for cholesterol, liver function and sometimes muscle enzymes may be needed. Do not stop treatment without medical advice.
