CIPLOX 0.3% eye / ear drops, solution medication leaflet

S03AA07 ciprofloxacin • Sensory organs | Antiinfectives

Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic from the fluoroquinolone class used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. It is indicated for urinary tract infections, respiratory infections, gastrointestinal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, as well as certain bone and joint infections. It is also used in the treatment of anthrax.

Ciprofloxacin works by inhibiting DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication and repair, leading to bacterial destruction. It is available in tablet, injectable solution, and eye or ear drop forms.

Side effects may include nausea, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, or allergic reactions. In rare cases, it can cause tendinitis, tendon rupture, or severe reactions such as peripheral neuropathy. It is contraindicated in children, pregnant women, and patients with hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones.
