Captopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor used to treat high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, and diabetic nephropathy. It helps relax blood vessels, lowering blood pressure and improving blood flow.
Captopril is effective in preventing cardiovascular complications such as heart attack or stroke and is commonly used in managing heart failure. It can also slow the progression of kidney damage in patients with diabetes.
Side effects may include dry cough, dizziness, fatigue, skin rash, or, in rare cases, severe reactions such as angioedema. It is contraindicated during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and in patients with hypersensitivity to captopril or other ACE inhibitors.
