The combination of risedronate, calcium, and colecalciferol is used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in patients at high risk of fractures. Risedronate helps strengthen bones by inhibiting bone resorption, while calcium and colecalciferol (vitamin D3) contribute to maintaining bone health.
The medication is taken orally, as directed by a doctor, usually once weekly for risedronate and daily for calcium and vitamin D3. It is important for patients to follow the treatment regimen and avoid lying down for 30 minutes after taking risedronate.
Patients should be aware of potential side effects, such as gastrointestinal disturbances, muscle pain, or hypercalcemia. It is important to inform the doctor of any unusual symptoms.
Common side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances, muscle pain, and hypercalcemia. In rare cases, severe reactions such as jaw osteonecrosis or atypical fractures may occur. Patients should be informed of these risks before starting treatment.
