About this active substance

Trenibotulinumtoxin E is a type E botulinum toxin used for temporary improvement of moderate or severe frown lines between the eyebrows in adults when these have an important psychological impact. It reduces acetylcholine release and relaxes the involved muscles. The result is temporary and does not correct every kind of wrinkle.

A trained doctor injects it into five muscle sites above and between the eyebrows. Improvement may begin within hours and lasts about two to three weeks. The dose and timing of any further procedure are chosen by the clinician. Its units cannot be directly converted into those of other botulinum toxins. It must not be self-injected.

Temporary drooping of an eyelid or eyebrow, or a change in eyebrow shape, can occur. Needle injections can cause pain, redness or bruising. It must not be given with infection or inflammation at the injection site, allergy to botulinum toxins or neuromuscular diseases such as myasthenia gravis.

Tell the doctor about other toxin injections, antibiotics, muscle relaxants, pregnancy and breastfeeding. Difficulty swallowing, speaking or breathing, generalised weakness or an allergic reaction after injection requires urgent medical help. Report visual changes or troublesome asymmetry, and do not repeat the procedure without assessment.
