Rosuvastatin is a medication from the statin class, used to lower cholesterol levels and prevent cardiovascular diseases. It works by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which plays a key role in the production of cholesterol in the liver. By reducing LDL cholesterol ('bad cholesterol') and increasing HDL cholesterol ('good cholesterol'), rosuvastatin helps prevent the buildup of atherosclerotic plaques in the arteries.

This medication is indicated for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, mixed dyslipidemia, or hypertriglyceridemia, as well as for the prevention of cardiovascular events in high-risk individuals, such as those with a history of myocardial infarction, stroke, or diabetes. It is also used to slow the progression of atherosclerosis.

Rosuvastatin is taken orally, usually once daily, and the dose is adjusted based on cholesterol levels and the patient's response to treatment. It is important for patients to follow a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet while on this medication. Regular monitoring of liver function and lipid levels is essential to ensure the treatment's effectiveness and safety.
