About this active substance

Nifedipine is a medication from the calcium channel blocker class, primarily used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and angina pectoris (chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart). It works by relaxing blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily and reducing the workload on the heart.

Nifedipine is available in immediate-release or extended-release tablet forms and is also used to treat certain vascular conditions, such as Raynaud's phenomenon (spasms of blood vessels in the fingers).

Side effects may include dizziness, headaches, facial flushing, ankle swelling, or palpitations. In rare cases, it can cause severe hypotension (excessive lowering of blood pressure). It is important to take the medication as prescribed by a doctor and avoid abrupt discontinuation of treatment.
