About this active substance
Naphazoline + pheniramine maleate is a combination used in eye drops for redness and itching associated with mild eye allergy. Naphazoline is a decongestant that narrows blood vessels in the eye and reduces redness, while pheniramine is an antihistamine that reduces allergic itching and watering.
It is used only in the eyes, according to the leaflet, for short periods. Wash hands before use and do not touch the bottle tip to the eye or skin. Contact lenses should be removed before administration and reinserted only as recommended in the leaflet. Prolonged or excessive use can cause rebound redness and worsening irritation.
Side effects may include stinging, burning, pupil dilation, blurred vision, dryness, headache, sleepiness or palpitations. Caution is advised in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism or treatment with MAO inhibitors. Do not use in children below the permitted age.
Consult a doctor urgently if eye pain, vision changes, severe light sensitivity, purulent discharge, eye injury, persistent redness or worsening after a few days occurs. Stop use if allergic reactions, severe dizziness or irregular heartbeat develops. The drops may relieve mild allergy symptoms, but they do not treat eye infections.
