Meropenem is an antibiotic from the carbapenem class, used to treat severe bacterial infections. It is effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria, including gram-positive, gram-negative, and anaerobic bacteria. It is often used in critical situations, such as nosocomial infections or life-threatening conditions.

This medication is indicated for the treatment of complicated infections, such as intra-abdominal infections, complicated urinary tract infections, bacterial meningitis, and skin and soft tissue infections. It is also used in the treatment of sepsis and hospital-acquired pneumonia, including ventilator-associated pneumonia.

Meropenem is administered intravenously and is well-tolerated by most patients. Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, headache, and skin rashes. In rare cases, severe allergic reactions, seizures, or hematological disorders may occur.
