About this active substance

Lidocaine + amylmetacresol + 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol is a local combination used for sore throat, irritation and mild inflammation of the mouth or pharynx. Lidocaine is a local anaesthetic that numbs the area and reduces pain, while amylmetacresol and 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol have local antiseptic activity.

It is usually used as lozenges or throat spray, according to the leaflet. Lozenges should be allowed to dissolve slowly in the mouth and should not be chewed. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose, and avoid eating or drinking hot liquids immediately after use, because numbness may increase the risk of biting or swallowing incorrectly.

Side effects may include local numbness, altered taste, burning sensation, irritation, nausea, dry mouth or allergic reactions. Local anaesthetics can rarely cause important reactions, especially if high doses are used. The product should not be used for long periods without medical advice, because sore throat may be bacterial, viral or irritative.

Consult a doctor if high fever, difficulty swallowing, breathing problems, pus on the tonsils, severe pain, rash, facial swelling or symptoms lasting more than a few days occur. In children, the minimum age in the leaflet must be followed strictly. During pregnancy, breastfeeding or allergy to local anaesthetics, ask for medical advice before use.
