Results for the substance lacidipine

Lacidipine treats high blood pressure in adults, alone or with other antihypertensive medicines. It blocks calcium channels in blood-vessel muscle, allowing vessels to relax and widen. This lowers blood pressure and makes blood flow more easily. Treatment is usually long term, even when high blood pressure causes no symptoms.

Take the tablets once daily, preferably in the morning at the same time. The doctor adjusts the dose according to blood pressure; its full effect may take several weeks. Do not change the schedule yourself. Avoid grapefruit juice because it can alter medicine levels in the blood, and tell the doctor about all other treatments.

Possible effects include headache, flushing, dizziness, palpitations and swollen ankles. Excessively low blood pressure or fainting can occur. The gums may enlarge, making good oral hygiene important. Do not drive if dizzy. Tell the doctor if swelling or palpitations persist or become troublesome.

Seek urgent help for new or worsening chest pain, fainting, facial swelling or difficulty breathing. Do not use it in aortic stenosis or within one month after a heart attack. Mention liver disease or heart failure, which require caution. Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding requires a medical decision. Check blood pressure as recommended.
