Fexofenadine is an antihistamine medication used to treat allergy symptoms such as seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives and itching). It belongs to the class of second-generation antihistamines and works by blocking H1 histamine receptors, thereby reducing the effects of histamine, a substance released during allergic reactions.

Fexofenadine is effective in relieving symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, itching, and skin rashes. It is preferred over first-generation antihistamines because it has a lower risk of causing drowsiness.

The medication is taken orally, usually once daily, and its effects are rapid, lasting up to 24 hours. Side effects are rare but may include headache, nausea, dizziness, or fatigue. It is important to use fexofenadine as directed by a healthcare provider, and grapefruit juice should be avoided as it may reduce the medication's effectiveness.
