About this active substance
Aescin + diethylamine salicylate is a topical combination used for pain, inflammation and swelling after minor injuries, sprains, bruises, muscle strains or mild musculoskeletal pain. Aescin helps reduce oedema and capillary fragility, while diethylamine salicylate has local anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects. It is intended for symptomatic relief on intact skin.
The gel or cream is applied in a thin layer according to the leaflet. Do not apply it to wounds, mucous membranes, eyes, irritated skin, burns or infected areas. Wash hands after use unless the treated area is on the hands. Do not cover the area with occlusive dressings and do not apply strong local heat unless a healthcare professional advises it.
Possible side effects include redness, stinging, itching, dryness, irritation or rash at the application site. Because the product contains a salicylate, caution is needed in people allergic to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines, in patients whose asthma is triggered by these medicines, in those taking anticoagulants or when large skin areas are treated.
Seek medical advice if pain or swelling worsens, or if deformity, inability to bear weight, extensive bruising, numbness, fever or signs of infection occur. Stop the product if allergic reactions, breathing difficulty or widespread rash appear. Local treatment can reduce symptoms, but it does not replace medical assessment of a serious injury.
