About this active substance

Diltiazem is a calcium channel blocker medication used to treat high blood pressure, angina pectoris, and certain types of cardiac arrhythmias, such as atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter. It works by relaxing the muscles in the walls of blood vessels and reducing heart rate, which improves blood flow and lowers blood pressure.

It is available in the form of tablets, extended-release capsules, or injectable solutions, with the dosage adjusted based on the condition being treated and the patient's response.

Side effects may include dizziness, headache, fatigue, peripheral edema (swelling of the legs), nausea, or constipation. In rare cases, it may cause severe bradycardia (slow heart rate) or heart failure.

Diltiazem is contraindicated in patients with severe bradycardia, high-grade atrioventricular block, decompensated heart failure, or severe hypotension. It is important to use it as prescribed by a doctor, and patients should be monitored to prevent complications.
