Results for the substance bacterial ribosomes proteoglycan

Bacterial ribosomes + proteoglycan is a combination used in some immunomodulating products to reduce the frequency of recurrent respiratory infections in selected patients. It contains bacterial fragments intended to stimulate mucosal immune responses in a controlled way. It is not an antibiotic and does not treat an acute infection already established.

It is taken by mouth according to cyclic schedules described in the leaflet or prescribed by the doctor. The intended effect is preventive and develops over time, not immediately. Treatment is different from standard vaccines and does not replace recommended vaccination, hand hygiene, avoiding tobacco smoke, or controlling allergies and asthma. Acute infections may need specific treatment.

Side effects may include mild fever, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, headache, skin rash, cough or temporary worsening of respiratory symptoms. Allergic reactions are rare but possible. Tell the doctor if the patient has autoimmune disease, immune deficiency, immunosuppressive treatment, fever, significant active infection or previous reactions to bacterial-derived products.

Seek medical help if high fever, breathing difficulty, facial swelling, hives, poor general condition, severe wheezing or infections recurring despite treatment occur. In children, use should be decided by a doctor according to age and infection history. The product may have an adjunctive role, but it does not replace assessment of why infections are recurring.
