About this active substance

Amoxicillin is a penicillin-class antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, including respiratory, urinary, ear, sinus, and skin infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the destruction of susceptible bacteria.

It is effective against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and is often combined with clavulanic acid to broaden its spectrum against beta-lactamase-producing bacteria. Amoxicillin is administered orally in tablets, capsules, or suspensions, and sometimes intravenously for severe infections.

It is well tolerated but may cause side effects such as nausea, diarrhea, skin rashes, and, rarely, severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis). Proper use according to medical guidelines is essential to prevent bacterial resistance.
