Dehydrocholic acid is a synthetic derivative of natural bile acid and is primarily used to stimulate bile secretion (choleretic effect) and support fat digestion. It is indicated for the treatment of hepatobiliary disorders, such as biliary dyskinesia, mild liver insufficiency, and other conditions involving insufficient bile secretion.

The mechanism of action of dehydrocholic acid involves stimulating the production and release of bile by the liver, which aids in the emulsification of fats and the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K). Additionally, dehydrocholic acid can help alleviate symptoms associated with poor digestion, such as bloating, nausea, and abdominal discomfort.

Dehydrocholic acid is available in tablet or oral solution form and is usually taken before meals, as directed by a doctor. The dosage and duration of treatment vary depending on the severity of the condition and the patient’s response to therapy.
