Indicated for: bacterial infections
Substance: erythromycin + zinc acetate (macrolide antibiotic + mineral)
ATC: D10AF52 (Dermatologicals | Anti-acne preparations for topical use | Antiinfectives for treatment of acne)
The combination of erythromycin and zinc acetate is used in the treatment of acne vulgaris, particularly for mild to moderate cases. It combines the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects of erythromycin with the healing and regenerative properties of zinc, providing an effective solution for reducing acne lesions.
- Erythromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that inhibits the growth of bacteria involved in acne, such as Cutibacterium acnes. It reduces inflammation and prevents the formation of new acne lesions.
- Zinc acetate has anti-inflammatory properties and helps reduce sebum production, accelerating the healing of acne-affected skin. Zinc also contributes to tissue regeneration and reduces irritation.
This combination is available as a solution or gel and is applied topically, usually twice daily, on clean and dry skin.
Common side effects include local irritation, redness, dryness, or a burning sensation at the application site. These reactions are usually mild and temporary. It is important to avoid contact with the eyes, mouth, or other sensitive areas.
Patients should strictly follow their doctor’s instructions and avoid using other irritating products (such as harsh exfoliants or alcohol-based products) during treatment. The combination is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women without medical advice.
