Paracetamol + dextromethorphan + doxylamine + ephedrine is a combination for cold or flu symptoms, especially fever, aches, dry cough, runny nose and congestion. Paracetamol lowers pain and fever, dextromethorphan suppresses cough, doxylamine is a sedating antihistamine, and ephedrine has a decongestant effect on nasal passages.
It is taken by mouth according to the leaflet, usually for short-term use and with care in the evening if it causes sleepiness. Do not combine it with alcohol, sedatives, sleeping tablets or other products containing paracetamol. Ephedrine may increase blood pressure, pulse and agitation, while doxylamine may cause marked drowsiness. Do not exceed the recommended dose.
Side effects may include sleepiness, dizziness, dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, palpitations, tremor, restlessness, insomnia, urinary retention or nausea. Caution is needed in patients with high blood pressure, heart disease, glaucoma, enlarged prostate, epilepsy, liver disease, antidepressant treatment or older age.
Seek urgent medical help if chest pain, fast or irregular heartbeat, breathing difficulty, confusion, hallucinations, seizures, extreme sleepiness, jaundice or allergic reactions occur. Do not drive after taking it if you are drowsy. In children, pregnancy and breastfeeding, use should be decided by a doctor.
