Vitamin B complex is a combination of water-soluble B vitamins, such as thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, pyridoxine, biotin, folic acid and cyanocobalamin. These vitamins help the body produce energy, support the nervous system, form blood cells and maintain skin and mucous membranes. The product is most useful when there is deficiency or insufficient dietary intake.
It is taken by mouth according to the leaflet or a healthcare professional’s advice. Not every healthy person needs permanent supplementation, and high doses do not automatically mean greater benefit. People with restrictive diets, heavy alcohol use, malabsorption, pregnancy, older age or certain long-term medicines may need assessment and targeted supplementation.
Side effects are usually mild and may include nausea, stomach discomfort, unpleasant taste, bright yellow urine or skin rash. High doses of niacin can cause flushing and itching, while excessive vitamin B6 taken for a long time may affect nerves, causing tingling or numbness. Some B vitamins may also interfere with certain laboratory tests.
Seek medical advice if persistent numbness, weakness, severe rash, facial swelling, breathing difficulty or symptoms suggesting anaemia, such as marked tiredness and paleness, occur.
