Indicated for: conjunctival hyperemia
Route of administration: ophthalmic
Substance: tetryzoline (adrenergic decongestant)
ATC: S01GA02 (Sensory organs | Decongestants and antiallergics | Sympathomimetics used as decongestants)
Tetryzoline is a decongestant used to relieve redness and irritation of the eyes caused by allergies, fatigue, or irritants. It works by constricting blood vessels in the eyes, thereby reducing redness and swelling.
The medication is available as eye drops and should be used as directed by a doctor or pharmacist. Typically, 1-2 drops are applied to the affected eye up to four times daily.
Patients should avoid prolonged use of the medication, as it may cause rebound effects such as persistent redness. It is important not to exceed the recommended dosage.
Side effects may include a burning sensation, stinging, or dry eyes. In rare cases, severe reactions such as pupil dilation or increased intraocular pressure may occur. Patients should inform their doctor of any unusual symptoms.
