Indicated for: pain and inflammation
Substance: naproxen + esomeprazole (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug + proton pump inhibitor)
ATC: M01AE52 (Musculo-skeletal system | Antiinflammatory and antirheumatic products, non-steroids | Propionic acid derivatives)
Naproxen + esomeprazole is a combination medication used to treat pain and inflammation associated with conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis, while reducing the risk of gastrointestinal complications caused by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
- Naproxen is an NSAID that reduces pain, inflammation, and fever by inhibiting prostaglandin production.
- Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that decreases stomach acid production, protecting the stomach lining from irritation and ulcers caused by naproxen.
This combination is particularly indicated for patients at higher risk of gastric ulcers or gastrointestinal bleeding.
Side effects may include nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea, dizziness, or, in rare cases, allergic reactions. Long-term use may increase the risk of cardiovascular events (due to naproxen) or gastrointestinal infections (due to reduced stomach acid). It is important to take this medication as prescribed by a doctor.
