Sulodexide is a medication primarily used for the treatment and prevention of vascular conditions, especially those involving microcirculation. It is a mixture of glycosaminoglycans, mainly composed of low-molecular-weight heparin and dermatan sulfate, with antithrombotic, profibrinolytic, and vasculoprotective properties.

Sulodexide is indicated for the treatment of chronic venous insufficiency, peripheral arterial disease, diabetic retinopathy, and diabetic nephropathy. It is also used to prevent thrombosis and vascular complications in high-risk patients.

Side effects are rare but may include allergic reactions, gastrointestinal disturbances (such as nausea or diarrhea), and, in very rare cases, bleeding. Patients should inform their doctor about any concurrent anticoagulant therapy, as sulodexide may increase the risk of bleeding.

Sulodexide should be used with caution in patients with coagulation disorders or those taking other anticoagulant medications. Periodic monitoring of coagulation parameters may be necessary during treatment.
