Retinol + ergocalciferol + fish oil is a nutritional combination providing vitamin A, vitamin D2 and fatty acids from fish oil. It may be used to prevent or correct deficiencies, during periods of insufficient dietary intake or when recommended by a healthcare professional. Vitamin A supports vision and skin, while vitamin D helps calcium metabolism and bone health.
It is taken by mouth according to the leaflet, usually with food, because vitamins A and D are absorbed better with fat. The dose must be followed carefully, especially if the patient also takes other products containing vitamin A, vitamin D or fish liver oil. Do not combine several similar supplements without advice from a doctor or pharmacist.
Side effects may include nausea, fishy taste, belching, diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort or skin rash. Too much vitamin A can cause headache, dry skin, dizziness, liver injury and harm in pregnancy. Too much vitamin D can increase calcium levels, causing thirst, frequent urination, constipation, weakness and kidney problems.
Ask a doctor before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have liver or kidney disease, kidney stones, high calcium, anticoagulant treatment or use retinoid medicines.
