Indicated for: angina pectoris
Route of administration: oral
Substance: basic bismuth nitrate + basic magnesium carbonate + baking soda + rhizome of Acorus calamis (antihypertensives)
ATC: A02AXN1 (Alimentary tract and metabolism | Antacids | Antacids, other combinations)
Do not take with milk, calcium, iron, magnesium, or antacids if separation is recommended.
The combination of basic bismuth nitrate, basic magnesium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, and Acorus calamus rhizome is used to treat gastrointestinal conditions, particularly for relieving symptoms of gastric hyperacidity, heartburn, gastritis, and dyspepsia. It has antacid, gastric protective, and carminative effects, helping to reduce inflammation and protect the stomach lining from gastric acid.
Basic bismuth nitrate has astringent and antibacterial properties, being effective against Helicobacter pylori, a bacterium associated with gastric ulcers. Basic magnesium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate quickly neutralize gastric acid, reducing heartburn and discomfort caused by hyperacidity. Acorus calamus rhizome has carminative and antispasmodic effects, helping to reduce bloating and gastrointestinal spasms.
While effective, this combination may cause side effects such as constipation (due to bismuth), diarrhea (due to magnesium), or electrolyte imbalances (with excessive use of sodium bicarbonate). It is important for patients to follow the recommended dosage and avoid long-term use without medical supervision.
This combination should be used as directed by a doctor. It is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment, hypersensitivity to any of the components, or metabolic alkalosis. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before use.
