Buformin is an antidiabetic medication used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It belongs to the biguanide class and works by reducing glucose production in the liver and improving insulin sensitivity in cells.
The medication is taken orally, usually two or three times a day, as directed by a doctor. The dosage is adjusted based on blood sugar levels and the patient's response to treatment.
Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and loss of appetite. In rare cases, lactic acidosis, a serious complication, may occur and requires immediate medical attention.
Buformin is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women and is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment. Patients should inform their doctor about all medications and supplements they are taking to avoid drug interactions.
