Indicated for: insomnia
Route of administration: oral
Substance: flunitrazepam (sedative-hypnotic)
ATC: N05CD03 (Nervous system | Hypnotics and sedatives | Benzodiazepine derivatives)
Flunitrazepam is a medication from the benzodiazepine class, used to treat severe insomnia and sometimes as a preoperative sedative. It works by relaxing the central nervous system, inducing sleep and reducing anxiety. Due to its potential for dependence, its use is strictly controlled and recommended only for short-term treatment.
Flunitrazepam is taken orally before bedtime, as directed by your doctor. It is important not to exceed the prescribed dose and not to combine the medication with alcohol or other sedatives, as dangerous reactions may occur.
Side effects may include prolonged drowsiness, dizziness, memory or coordination disturbances, and, rarely, paradoxical reactions (agitation, confusion). Long-term use can lead to physical and psychological dependence.
Flunitrazepam is effective in treating severe insomnia, but must be used with great caution, only as recommended and under strict medical supervision, to avoid associated risks.
