It works by enhancing the activity of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a neurotransmitter that reduces excessive brain activity, providing anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, and sedative effects.

Clonazepam is prescribed for managing seizures, including absence and myoclonic seizures, and for preventing panic attacks. It may also be used off-label for other conditions, such as restless legs syndrome or sleep disorders.

The medication is taken orally, in the form of tablets or solution, and the dosage is individually adjusted based on the condition being treated and the patient's response. Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, confusion, and coordination problems.
