Rosuvastatin with perindopril is a combination for adults who have high cholesterol together with high blood pressure or increased cardiovascular risk. Rosuvastatin is a statin that lowers LDL cholesterol and may stabilise atherosclerotic plaques. Perindopril is an ACE inhibitor that relaxes blood vessels, lowers blood pressure and reduces strain on the heart.

It is taken by mouth, usually once daily, exactly as prescribed. Fixed combinations are mainly used when the patient is already controlled on the individual medicines, making treatment simpler and easier to follow. Continue a cholesterol-lowering diet, salt reduction, exercise, weight control and smoking cessation.

Side effects may include dizziness, headache, dry cough, tiredness, nausea, muscle pain or increased liver enzymes. Less commonly, blood pressure may fall too much, potassium may rise, kidney function may worsen, or allergic swelling of the face, lips or throat may occur. Contact your doctor for unexplained muscle pain, weakness, fever, dark urine or severe dizziness.

Monitoring usually includes blood pressure, cholesterol, kidney function, potassium and sometimes liver tests. This combination should not be used during pregnancy, and suspected pregnancy should be reported immediately. Tell your doctor about diuretics, potassium supplements, anti-inflammatory painkillers, antibiotics, HIV or hepatitis medicines and all other treatments, because interactions are possible.
