Scots pine essential oil + eucalyptus + peppermint + tocopherol is a combination used in some topical or inhalation products for colds, blocked nose, mild cough or a feeling of breathing difficulty due to congestion. Volatile oils provide a strong smell and a sensation of clearer airways, while tocopherol has a protective role within the formulation.

It should be used according to the leaflet, usually by external application, inhalation or nasal products depending on the commercial form. It must not be applied to the eyes, irritated mucosa, wounds or in large amounts. In children, the minimum permitted age is important because essential oils can cause breathing spasm or toxicity if used incorrectly.

Side effects may include local irritation, stinging, sneezing, cough, watery eyes, itching, rash or bronchospasm. People with asthma, allergies, epilepsy, sensitive skin or previous reactions to essential oils should be cautious. Accidental swallowing can be dangerous, especially in children, and needs prompt medical advice.

Stop use and seek medical help if wheezing, shortness of breath, facial swelling, widespread rash, severe dizziness or worsening cough occurs. If fever, chest pain, purulent secretions or symptoms lasting more than a few days occur, medical assessment is needed. The product may improve comfort, but it does not treat the cause of infection.
